EASTER 2021
Dear Friends,
Easter is a glorious season and it carries such a powerful message! We have all heard it over and over again: Christ is risen! Christ is alive! Because of that we can live eternally also. For too many Christians, however, Easter and the resurrection is a future event. It is something that has happened to Christ and will happen to us someday. For now it is just a fond hope and a promise. In actuality, the resurrection begins now and can be a present event for everyone.
If we experience life basically as a blessing and a joy even in the midst of trouble and sorrow; if people for us are gifts to be shared and loved and communicated with and not to be used and manipulated; if we see God working in the world and know that a new world is coming by God's hand instead of thinking that everything is going to hell in a hand basket; if we feel that there is more to life than just money and power and self-gratification; if we thank God more and worry less and continue in that way; if God for us is a living reality and presence and not just a belief that we think we ought to have; if we know that we are part of something that will never end and only grow better and more powerful and loving and that will extend way beyond death; if we know that life is stronger than death and that love is more powerful than hate and that God loves us and will never let us go; Then - then we will recognize that the resurrection starts now, Easter is a present reality, and we, you and I, are a part of it all!

¡La Pascua es una época gloriosa y lleva un mensaje tan poderoso! Todos lo hemos oído una y otra vez: ¡Cristo ha resucitado! ¡Cristo está vivo! Debido a eso también podemos vivir eternamente.Para demasiados cristianos, sin embargo, la Pascua y la resurrección es un acontecimiento futuro. Es algo que le ha sucedido a Cristo y nos sucederá algún día. Por ahora es sólo una esperanza cariñosa y una promesa. En realidad, la resurrección comienza ahora y puede ser un acontecimiento presente para todos.Si experimentamos la vida básicamente como una bendición y un gozo, incluso en medio de problemas y tristezas; si las personas para nosotros son regalos para ser compartidos y amados y comunicados con y no para ser utilizados y manipulados; si vemos a Dios trabajando en el mundo y sabemos que un nuevo mundo viene de la mano de Dios en lugar de pensar que todo va al infierno en una cesta de manos; si sentimos que hay algo más en la vida que sólo dinero, poder y autogratificación; si damos más gracias a Dios y nos preocupamos menos y continuamos de esa manera; si Dios para nosotros es una realidad viva y presencia y no sólo una creencia que creemos que debemos tener; si sabemos que somos parte de algo que nunca terminará y sólo crecerá mejor y más poderoso y amoroso y que se extenderá mucho más allá de la muerte; si sabemos que la vida es más fuerte que la muerte y que el amor es más poderoso que el odio y que Dios nos ama y nunca nos dejará ir; Entonces - entonces reconoceremos que la resurrección comienza ahora, la Pascua es una realidad presente, y nosotros, tú y yo, somos parte de todo!

Dear Friends:
T.V., movies, sports - so much depiction is about violence and power to win. We feel empowered when we can do it ourselves and beat the next guy. But that’s not the way of the kingdom of God.
There’s a hymn written in Spanish called Cuando El Pobre - When the Poor Ones: When the poor ones who have nothing share with strangers, when the thirsty water give unto us all, when the crippled in their weakness strengthen others, then we know that God still goes that road with us.
God uses the poor, the weak and crippled, to show how he walks with us in this world.
In Mark 12:41-44 we read: He sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. Then he called his disciples and said to them, ‘Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.’
This widow was in a bad social position: Husband dead, no mention of children, and she just gave away all her money. Yet Jesus commends her - her power was in her trust that God would give her daily life. Isn’t that what we pray in the Lord’s prayer?
It’s not by guns or fighting or acting tough or having money that we win.
We triumph in trust.
I call you in this season of Lent to give up trusting the world and its values, and follow in the faith of the one who walked towards the ultimate sacrifice. Then God raises you up and the world, for all it’s bravado, can never bring you down again.

T.V., películas, deportes - tanta representación se trata de la violencia y el poder para ganar. Nos sentimos empoderados cuando podemos hacerlo nosotros mismos y vencer al siguiente tipo. Pero ese no es el camino del reino de Dios.
Hay un himno escrito en español llamado Cuando El Pobre - Cuando los pobres: Cuando los pobres que no tienen nada comparten con los extraños, cuando el agua sediento nos da a todos, cuando los lisiados en su debilidad fortalecen a los demás, entonces sabemos que Dios todavía va por ese camino con nosotros.
Dios usa a los pobres, a los débiles y lisiados, para mostrar cómo camina con nosotros en este mundo.
En Marcos 12:41-44 leemos: Se sentó frente al tesoro, y vio a la multitud poniendo dinero en el tesoro. Muchos ricos ponen grandes sumas. Una pobre viuda vino y puso dos pequeñas monedas de cobre, que valen un centavo. Luego llamó a sus discípulos y les dijo: 'Verdaderamente os digo, esta pobre viuda ha puesto más que todos los que están contribuyendo al tesoro. Porque todos ellos han contribuido por su abundancia; pero ella fuera de su pobreza ha puesto en todo lo que tenía, todo lo que tenía que vivir.
Esta viuda estaba en una mala posición social: marido muerto, sin mencionar a los niños, y ella acaba de regalar todo su dinero. Sin embargo, Jesús la elogia: su poder estaba en su confianza en que Dios le daría la vida diaria. ¿No es eso lo que oramos en la oración del Señor?
No es por armas o luchando o actuando duro o teniendo dinero que ganamos.
Triunfamos en confianza.
Os invito en esta época de Cuaresma a renunciar a confiar en el mundo y en sus valores, y seguir la fe del que caminó hacia el sacrificio final. Entonces Dios te levanta y el mundo, por todo lo que es bravuconería, nunca puede derribarte de nuevo.
